Switzerland : Upturn In World Yarn Output Continues.

28/09/2002 World yarn production continued its recovery in the second quarter but output was still below the average level for the last three years, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) reported on Tuesday. The Zurich-based organisation said data showed fabric production rose sharply in the quarter to a three year high but that global yarn stocks continued to fall along with inventory levels, while world fabric inventories firmed and remain above the three year average.

Global yarn output rose 2.4 per cent in the quarter due to gains in North America, Asian and Europe, while world fabric output jumped nine per cent as all regions except Europe saw substantial gains in production. The ITMF said world yarn stocks fell 5.8 per cent during the period but global fabric stocks climbed 1.8 per cent.
