Omanese youth will be imparted training in yarn making at the new training centre, foundation for which has been laid by SV Pittie Sohar Textiles at its site in Sohar Free Zone. The training centre will help the company’s expansion of manufacturing plant, for which construction activity has already started and is likely to go operational in March 2019.

“We at SV Pittie are delighted to break-ground on our training centre for cotton-yarn manufacturing skills and usher in a new era of progress in manufacturing education in the sultanate. The training centre is a fine example of people coming together for the betterment of the community in particular, and the economy at large,” said SV Pittie chairman Vinod Pittie, according to Omanese media reports.

SV Pittie’s cotton-yarn plant will be the first plant in downstream industries in the textiles sector in Oman. The new manufacturing plant along with the training centre, highly competitive logistics facilities and a young, well-educated local workforce, is expected to result in several future investment opportunities in the country’s textile manufacturing sector.

The new plant is being built on a 27-hectare area at a cost of $300 million. It will be equipped with 150,000 spindles and 2,400 rotors, and will initially create around 1,500 employment opportunities.
