The Indian Texpreneurs Federation, which has units from different segments of the textile industry as its members, has appealed to the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections here to have regular interactions with the industry, if elected, so that they can take up the issues with the new government.
In a memorandum to the candidates, the Federation said that Coimbatore, Tiruppur and adjacent districts were known for industrial development and inclusive growth through the manufacturing industries, including textiles.
The textile sector contributed to employment generation, rural development, tax revenue and foreign exchange earning.
Hence, MPs elected from the region should act as a bridge between the industry and the Central Government.
The industry needed better and meaningful participation in policy decisions. So, the MPs elected should have a special interaction with the textile industry associations in the region to come up with a common minimum policy and submit it to the new government.
Further, an economist should be appointed as a co-ordinator with industries to study and take up their demands. The Textile Ministry officials should visit the region at least once a quarter to have a better understanding of the operation of the industries and expedite growth of the sector. The MPs should arrange for such meetings here between the top officials and the industry.
The elected MPs should have an yearly review session with the textile, commerce, and finance ministries, along with a delegation of entrepreneurs from the region. Similarly, they should have a review meeting with the stakeholders here before the Parliament sessions to represent the industry demands.
