Kyrgyzstan wants Bangladeshi apparel manufacturers to set
up readymade garment factories there and has even invited businessmen for joint
investment in developing the sector.Temirbek Erkinov, Kyrgyzstan’s Honorary
Consul appointed in Dhaka, placed the proposal during his meeting with
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President
Siddiqur Rahman at the latter’s Dhaka office on January 9, 2018.
Apart from discussing bilateral trade, Erkinov called upon Bangladeshi
businessmen to invest in the readymade garment infrastructure of his country,
and any other opportunistic sector. He assured Bangladeshi businessmen that
Kyrgyzstan would provide all the needed assistance, be it in terms of providing
land, gas, electricity and other infrastructural support if Bangladeshi apparel
makers invest in the country.
At the meeting, Erkinov also underlined that Kyrgyzstan
would be ready to offer loans to businessmen willing to invest in joint
investment there.Kyrgyzstan would soon outline possible areas of joint
cooperation and invite a business delegation from Bangladesh, which, according
to insiders, is likely by April this year.
Further, the BGMEA President discussed in broad details about the developing
garment industry of Bangladesh and urged Kyrgyzstan to import more of
‘Bangladesh-made’ apparel products. It is to be noted that Kyrgyzstan is an
importer of Bangladesh’s knitwear, woven garments and home textile products as
well.
