A
TEXTILE company will gain national exposure tonight when it is featured in a
documentary.AW Hainsworth, based in Spring Valley Mills, Stanningley, Pudsey,
will feature on BBC Four’s A Stitch in Time series.
The series on historic fashions will begin with host Amber Butchart exploring
the lives of historical figures through the clothes they wore.On this edition,
the host will look at Dutch painter Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait and visits
the Hainsworth Mill where she is shown the processes wool goes through to
create the broadcloth used to make the Arnolfini gown.
The company, run by the family including Thomas Hainsworth (pictured), traces
is roots back to 1783 when Abimelech ‘Old Bim’ Hainsworth started his clothiers
business.Julie Greenhough, AW Hainsworth marketing manager, said: “We have such
a rich heritage that it means we were actually there first-hand during the
manufacturing of historical cloths such as those used to make the Arnolfini
gown.”
